The Victoria-Taiama Partnership continues to support HEALTH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS in Taiama, Sierra Leone. In 2024, our maternal health team (community nurse, trained midwife and traditional birth attendant) attended 75 births, bringing the total of births at the Judy Smith Health Centre in Taiama, Sierra Leone over the past eight years to over 350! Our Outreach Program has also brought maternal and child health services to four nearby villages where women can access pre and post natal care (infant nutrition, nutritional counselling, early referral for difficulties) when they cannot travel to Taiama. Aside from maternal health services, the outreach team has also provided regular vaccinations and monitoring of children under five years. At 12

0 patients per month (about 30 people treated per village visit), that is over 1400 health care treatments from our outreach team this year! we continued to provide prenatal vitamins for our pregnant mothers   We also provided a high protein supplement called Bennimix to 50 babies every month. This supplement was designed by nutritionists from Sierra Leone to prevent malnutrition amongst infants 6-24 months who are often introduced to solid foods which are high In carbohydrates, but low in needed proteins when mothers reduce breastfeeding. The Bennimix formula uses readily available mix of local foods: rice, sesame seeds, pigeon peas. Our primary goal this year ($3,000) is to increase the distribution of Bennimix (prepared at the health centre) so that every baby born at the health centre receives adequate nutrition during the 18 month period when they are so vulnerable to malnutrition.

In addition to our health programs, in 2024 our girls’ education program supported 40 secondary school girls, 18 higher education students (including 5 students in health related programs) and 4 tailoring students. Their needs include school supplies and personal care supplies.

Gift list:

·        $30 will give a mother a “baby bundle” of supplies

 for her new baby (diapers, blanket, clothing, mosquito net)

·        $10 will supply a tailoring student with basket of sewing

 supplies or supply a high school student with school supplies.
